Location: Chester, Nova Scotia (South Shore, approx 40 minutes from Halifax)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Compensation: Starting at $26 per hour, based on experience
About the Role
This is an industrial painting and coatings position supporting the manufacture of custom-engineered marine equipment. Working closely with fabrication, machining, assembly, engineering, and quality teams, you will prepare and apply protective coatings to fabricated steel and aluminum components while ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards. Candidates with Industrial Coatings Applicator (ICA) certification are encouraged to apply. Apprenticeship opportunities may be available for suitable candidates interested in pursuing the ICA trade.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare fabricated steel and aluminum components for coating applications
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions
- Determine coating systems, surface preparation requirements, and application methods
- Mix paints and protective coatings to required specifications
- Apply coatings using conventional and airless spray equipment, brushes, and rollers
- Measure and record coating thickness, humidity, temperature, and dew point readings
- Perform quality inspections to ensure coatings meet project requirements
- Maintain paint equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and safe condition
- Meet production schedules and standard hours while maintaining quality standards
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Previous experience in industrial painting, protective coatings, or a related trade
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to work overtime when required
Preferred Qualifications
- Industrial Coatings Applicator (ICA) Certification
- Registered ICA Apprentice
- Experience applying marine or heavy industrial coating systems
