Providing vision and strategic leadership, the Director is responsible for the management, development and implementation of information management and information technology initiatives in the organization, to support the organization’s programs, services and strategic initiatives.  Aligned with the Mission, Vision and Values and Ethics of Providence Care, the Director ensures promotion and enhancement of exceptional services and operations.   The Director proactively implements projects and initiatives that foster a culture of continuous improvement in the delivery of quality care through effective use of available data, information and information technology and ensures close linkages with management, medical staff and other clinicians to understand and support their information and technology requirements.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Sciences, Business Administration, Health Administration or equivalent area from an accredited institution
  • Master’s degree in Health/Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • Experience in a clinical informatics role or work experience as a clinician (nurse, other discipline), preferred
  • Five to seven years of demonstrated recent experience functioning in a similar role and portfolio in a health care setting with hands-on experience in information management and in progressively responsible management roles for at least three years
  • Five to seven years of demonstrated recent experience leading large-scale electronic patient record type projects in a hospital or health care environment
  • Five to seven years of demonstrated recent experience managing an IT department in a hospital or health care environment including infrastructure, application and helpdesk management
  • Recent hands-on experience with Enterprise Information Management preferred
  • Project Management Professional Certificate an asset
  • Understanding of and knowledge with external and internal reporting requirements for sub-acute care including CIHI, LHIN and Ministry data sets
  • Understanding of MIS standards
  • Experience in a clinical informatics role or work experience as a clinician (nurse, other discipline) preferred

 

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures continuous development, evaluation and updating of comprehensive strategies and plans for the Decision Support, Systems Support and Information Technology departments that is consistent with the strategic directions of the organization
  • Monitors and manages the detailed execution of the prioritized projects of the reporting departments
  • Leads all clinical and management informatics and information technology initiatives for the organization, including development and reporting of a corporate performance indicator infrastructure, development and implementation of a comprehensive Information, Communication and Automated technology strategy and development and implementation of an evidence-based decision making culture
  • Leads the recruitment of new staff for the team, working with support from Human Resources to coordinate recruitment, interviewing, hiring and orientation, as needed
  • Develops annual portfolio budget for approval by the President and CEO
