This position is a hybrid role between CNC Programming and Machining.
The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting machining processes that drive high-quality and efficient production. The Programmer collaborates professionally with the engineering, quality, and shop floor teams to enhance productivity, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement in all manufacturing operations.
As a CNC Machinist, this role will require strong knowledge in setup and operations. This role is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC mills to produce precision metal parts and components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
CNC Programmer - Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with management and engineering on machining process development and feasibility review.
- Develop and prove out CNC programs for shop floor CNC machines (mills and lathes).
- Develop Set Up Sheets (fixturing)
- Collaborate with Tooling Coordinator to select tooling/fixture requirements per the required applications.
- Work with tooling suppliers and representatives on new innovative tooling options.
- Create solid models using Mastercam.
- Design and assist with producing fixtures in house or outsource to selected subcontractors as needed.
- Work with Quality, Engineering, operators and machinists to resolve any issues that arise operationally, or project related.
- Provide technical skills to modify, optimize and monitor manufacturing process within specification requirements i.e. customer requirements, achieve and improve (when applicable) cycle time and set up time, optimization of tooling speeds and feeds.
- Store and manage data and documents on company network within structure requirements.
- Oversee the organization and cleanliness of the Programming office
CNC Machinist – Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills to produce precision parts according to blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Select, install, and adjust tooling, fixtures, and machine parameters for efficient production.
- Perform initial part inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure part conformance.
- Monitor the machining process and make real-time corrections to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Read and interpret complex technical drawings and use measurement instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Maintain and verify machine calibration and troubleshoot any equipment issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards throughout the machining process and for facility.
- Collaborate with engineers and production team to optimize setup procedures and minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate documentation of setup sheets, production logs, program updates and quality records.
- Perform basic machine maintenance and comply with maintenance program.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in complex CNC machine programming, supporting shop-floor machinists and operators.
- Hands-on experience as a Machinist.
- Advanced knowledge of CNC programming for mills and/or lathes.
- Strong proficiency in Mastercam and SolidWorks.
- Skilled in the use of precision measuring tools (calipers, indicators, micrometers, height gauges).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, charts, quality documentation, and tolerance/surface finish specifications.
- Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T principles.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across teams.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong analytical abilities, accuracy, and attention to detail.
