THE OPPORTUNITY
The Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor is responsible for the normal daily functioning of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This position is responsible for the design, implementation and continual improvement of the Quality Management System in Diagnostic Imaging.
- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and implements the mission and vision of the organization in his/her relations with internal and external stakeholders (local, regional and provincial) in partnership with the Director
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of staff in the organization as well as patients and family members.
- Responsible for payroll, equipment and inventory management, service maintenance contracts and partnership agreements within Diagnostic Services
- Coordinates the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the quality management system and promote staff commitment to continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs and maintaining ISO 15189 compliance
- Investigates and resolves complaints and quality occurrences in a timely and efficient manner, lead internal and external auditing, continuous quality improvement initiatives and implement service improvement plans when required and in accordance with the quality management system
- Supports and facilitates the execution of imaging exams in accordance with the quality management system, organizational and clinician expectations
- Prepares cost estimates, budget recommendations and service level recommendations while monitoring and controlling the expenditures of the department.
- Procure and maintains equipment and associated inventory processes in alignment with the quality management system and legislated
- Maintains statistical data and records as prescribed by the quality management system and program director
- Leads department meetings and participates in organizational and regional committees as directed
- Provides leadership in the sourcing and delivery of continuing education initiatives to promote an environment of continuous learning, professional development and good practice
- Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Clinical Services
OTHER DUTIES:
- Innovates creative and non-traditional approaches to training and staffing imaging modalities
- Facilitates recruitment, onboarding and orientation of new team members
- Fosters and maintain a positive work environment within departments including participation in staff engagement activities and championing team education
- Manages performance of team members including ongoing coaching, mentoring, counseling and performance management
- Monitors staffing patterns, surge patterns and overtime requests to ensure department is adequately staffed to meet workload demands
- Foster strong communication, collaboration and team engagement within the department through regularly scheduled meetings and huddles
- Consults and engages with external stakeholders as required while recognizing that GBGH is a unionized work environment.
- Responsible for maintaining cooperative labour relations within Diagnostic Imaging Department. This requires working within the framework of the appropriate collective agreement.
- Ensures personnel records are up to date including orientation records, competency audits, safety training, educational records, performance evaluations, license renewals, competency assessment and other pertinent data
- Accountable for ensuring that all practices and safety protocols within the department are carried out in compliance with the Occupational Health Act for which this position is the main contact person
- Performs workplace inspections, able to identify and correct risks and hazards that may cause injury/illness and follows through with corrective actions
- Organizational safety training is completed
- Carries out Supervisor duties in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regs., Sec. 25, 26, 27.
- QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:
- Diploma in Medical Radiation Technology is required.
- Degree in Health Care related field or successful completion of a health care leadership training program is required
- Member in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required
- Education/Experience with ISO 15189 QMS is preferred
- Successful completion of a certificate in process optimization training is preferred
- A minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a technologist in the hospital setting is required
- Previous demonstrated leadership experience with management competencies is required
- Good working knowledge of hospital EMR, PACS, Informatics and Applications and WTIS system is preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to problem solve independently and collaborate with organization leadership when required
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multi- task efficiently and effectively.
- Demonstrated excellent communications skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and knowledge of Medical Information Systems (e.g. PACS, EMR, HL7)
- Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 15189 requirements and experience implementing and maintaining a quality management system
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Ontario Wait Time as it applies to Healthcare efficiencies.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with stringent time frames and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role where accountability and reliability are key competencies.
- Demonstrated ability to delegate where necessary
- Demonstrated commitment to continued professional and personal growth and development through Continuing Education Programs and self-directed learning opportunities
