Position Overview

The Structural Engineer will work closely with project managers, designers, estimators, and field personnel to support the planning, design, and execution of industrial and commercial construction projects.

This role offers exposure to all phases of a project, from preliminary design and estimating through construction and project closeout. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver with strong communication skills and a desire to develop their technical and project management capabilities.

 

Job Duties

  • Assist in the design and development of structural systems for industrial and commercial projects
  • Review project requirements and develop engineering solutions based on client needs
  • Coordinate with project managers, designers, consultants, subcontractors, and field personnel
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting activities
  • Assist with quantity take-offs, material estimates, and project cost tracking
  • Review drawings and specifications to ensure constructability and compliance with applicable codes and standards
  • Conduct site visits, field reviews, and inspections as required
  • Assist with project documentation, reporting, and quality control processes
  • Support project execution from design through construction completion
  • Promote and maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural focus
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or eligible for registration
  • Engineering experience in industrial, commercial, or construction environments
  • Knowledge of structural design principles, building systems, and construction practices
  • Familiarity with applicable Alberta Building Code requirements and engineering standards
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a design-build environment
  • Exposure to estimating, project coordination, or construction management
  • Knowledge of industrial facilities, equipment foundations, platforms, and structural steel design
  • Experience coordinating with mechanical, piping, electrical, and process disciplines

 

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office and field-based work
  • Occasional travel to project sites throughout Alberta
