Shipper/Receiver Assistant - Laborer

We are an industry leader in structural steel manufacturing and mechanical equipment supply and install. We are seeking an individual to join our team who brings experience in Shipping/Receiving related tasks. This individual would be an assistant to our Shipping Supervisor on the administration and logistics tasks as well as be a contributing laborer on the floor.
Summary
The shipping and receiving department is responsible for the accurate packaging, documentation and shipment of steel components and equipment. This includes shipments to internal and external customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out tasks as delegated by the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor. General labor intensive shop duties will also apply.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Follow work instructions and safely perform duties assigned by the Shipping/Receiving supervisor
- Communicate and track job and shipment deadlines with direction from the Shipping/Receiving supervisor
- Execute primary functions within the shipping and receiving department such as:
- Confirm assembly lists, packings lists, BOM’s, or other documentation prior to parts, equipment or components leaving our premises
- Follow and document proper receiving of components
- Utilize tools and equipment to safely and properly package components to prepare for shipping
- Operate equipment to assist in loading and unloading of trucks
- Follow customer specific packaging and labeling requirement (bundling/assembling)
- Sign off and complete final shipping documentation as delegated by the supervisor
- Perform auxiliary supervisory activities in the absence of the Shipping/Receiving supervisor.
- Work with other members of the department and delegate tasks as required
- Seek out and complete additional tasks as instructed by the Supervisor
Education, Experience and other skills:
- Computer knowledge - Ability to create, modify, complete and publish packing lists in the absence of the shipping supervisor. Knowledge with MS Outlook, Word, Excel and other software programs.
- Navigate our internal server in the absence of the Shipping/Receiving Supervisor
- Valid, non-restricted class 5 driver’s license (Class 3 or 1 would be an asset)
- Organization, documentation and mechanical aptitude skills are an asset
- Ability to operate equipment, power and hand tools all while following safe practices and procedures
- Self motivated and able to work in both a team setting and with minimal supervision.
Compensation:
- Salary to be on an hourly basis (depending on skill and performance) depending on qualifications and experience with 10% vacation/stat pay.
- Overtime remunerated at 1.5x
