Location: Milner Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada M1S 4G7
Job Type: Full-time permeant
Salary: $41,000 to $43,000 per annum
Job Description:
A Quality Control Chemist is one specialization available for laboratory chemists. These professionals focus on testing a substance for compliance to standards and requirements. Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or experiments in laboratories for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge.
A QC chemist, or quality control chemist, utilizes chemistry lab skills to test and measure materials, generally in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical field. As someone whose work is generally part of a team effort, a QC chemist ensures that experiments are completed according to established Standard Operating Practices (SOP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) , as well as any applicable federal regulations, customer or industry standards. Some QC chemists also validate instrumentation and experiments.
Responsibilities:
Analysis & Testing
- Conducts chemical analysis of bulk and finished products
- Accurately maintains laboratory data
- Verify information on the batch cards and samples for correctness and accuracy
- Update daily bulk status report, prepare internal and external certificates of analysis
Lab Equipment
- Maintains laboratory equipment in clean order; reports equipment problems to supervisor
Investigations
- With guidance, detects and participates in OOS/OOT/Deviations and other investigations
Compliance
- Learns and stays current with regulatory guidance and compendia relevant to laboratories and OTC drugs and color cosmetics mfg.
Safety
- Follows EH&S procedures to ensure a safe work environment
Laboratory Data
- Reviews and approves laboratory test data and documentation for completeness and compliance. Requests corrections as required to meet Quality Standards.
Other
- Update daily bulk status report
- Arrange customer samples submission, also external samples testing
- Maintenance of standards for bulk and finished goods, assist with creating bulk and finished product testing specifications and test methods
- Calibration and maintenance of Instruments
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree, preferably in Chemistry or a closely related field like biology or biochemistry.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel
- Experience in Analytical testing with Lab Instruments
- Good understanding of GMP, GDP and GLP
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Problem solving abilities
- Experience in cosmetics or personal care environment preferred
