Location: Cambridge, Ontario

Industry: Industrial Pump Repair, Mechanical, Field Service, Manufacturing

WHO WE ARE

Our company is a trusted pump repair and field service company serving municipal, industrial, and commercial customers across Ontario. We specialize in the disassembly, evaluation, repair, and rebuilding of pumps and rotating equipment.

We combine decades of hands-on mechanical expertise with the strength and stability of a growing organization. We are focused on quality workmanship, strong customer relationships, and building a team that takes pride in solving real mechanical problems.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Estimator to join our team.

This role is central to our repair business. The Estimator is responsible for reviewing detailed inspection reports, interpreting mechanical failures, and converting findings into accurate, competitive repair quotes. You will translate technical evaluation into time, materials, machining requirements, subcontractor costs, and field service labour while protecting margin and maximizing quote win rates.

This position requires both mechanical understanding and strong business judgment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review inspection notes, measurements, and photos from the Pump Inspector
  • Interpret failure modes and determine appropriate repair scope
  • Build detailed repair quotes including labour, parts, machining, coatings, and subcontract services
  • Apply correct labour hours and shop rates based on repair complexity
  • Price work to balance competitiveness and target margins
  • Assess risk and uncertainty in scope and incorporate contingencies where appropriate
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding scope, exclusions, and lead times
  • Track quote status and follow up to improve win rates
  • Analyze lost jobs to refine pricing and quoting strategy
  • Attend onsite meetings to determine cost and equipment required to remove and reinstall the pump

Your work directly impacts revenue, profitability, backlog quality, and customer trust.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong mechanical background in pumps, rotating equipment, or industrial repair
  • Experience estimating repair work or time-and-material mechanical projects
  • Ability to interpret inspection findings and translate them into repair scope
  • Strong understanding of labour costing, shop rates, and material markups
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of margin management
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work under time pressure while maintaining quote quality

Preferred:

  • Experience in pump repair or rotating equipment rebuild environments
  • Familiarity with common pump types (centrifugal, split case, vertical turbine, submersible)
  • Experience working with municipal or industrial customers
  • Understanding of competitive bidding environments
  • Experience using Sage or similar systems
