Description

The Cook 1 is responsible for preparing high-quality meals for clients and visitors, ensuring compliance with both regular and special dietary requirements. Upholding strict sanitation standards in line with the Sanitation Code. Additionally, they inspect and taste food to guarantee its quality.

Beyond culinary duties, the Cook 1 plays an essential role in educating residents on nutrition and kitchen hygiene, fostering the development of life skills. This role includes participation in our Quality Assurance Program, contributing to menu enhancements, and assisting with the purchasing and utilization of supplies.

Qualifications

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent
  • Safe Food Handlers course
  • Culinary Skills Certificate, or demonstrated previous experience in a food preparation environment
  • At least one year experience in institutional or commercial food handling and food preparation
  • Effective interpersonal/communication skills appropriate to dealing tactfully and sensitively with clients, staff and other professionals of the Centre
  • Knowledge of nutrition and food preparation/handling with the ability to engage in client education
  • Knowledge of WHIMIS
  • Must be physically able to stand for extended periods, and reach, bend and lift repetitively
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets preferred
  • Class G drivers license with access to a personal reliable vehicle, must be able to travel to various work locations
  • Knowledge of the Ojibway language and culture would be an asset
  • Reliable attendance record
