POSITION:                   Leak Detection Technician

 

DEPARTMENT:            Distribution & Conveyance

 

 

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to operate leak detection systems and evaluate data collected.

 

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Determines areas in which to use data logging leak detection system: configures data loggers using docking cradle, computer and software.

Deploys and retrieves data loggers; downloads and evaluates data; prepares documentation of results; and issues work order.

Scans Distribution System for leaks: utilizes laptop-based digital leak detection system: collects and evaluates data; and make recommendations through work orders for system repairs.

Downloads scanned data on a monthly basis: prepares and sends electronic files to the manufacturer of leak detection equipment for their evaluation of our data.

Locates all valves in the system: uncovers valves; and ensures valves are operable. Systematically flushes the distribution system during leak detection.

Accurately measures water loss for each leak discovered: assists with assembling this info into a monthly report.

Maintains accurate records of work performed, such as areas that surveyed, valves operated, leaks discovered, etc. Assists crews with locating difficult to find leaks in the system.

Repairs all sample stations in the system.

Assists trouble shooters when needed.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains vehicle, leak detection equipment, utility locator, valve wrench, and other tools and equipment.

Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, vendors, contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

 

Additional Functions:

This position may require on call assignments. Performs other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in water distribution system construction and repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. This is considered a Safety Sensitive position.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

ADA Compliance:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (50-100 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, disease, pathogenic substances, or rude/irate customers.

PAYGRADE:               15H (starts at $21.610/hour - 32.416/hour)
