POSITION: DIETARY AIDE  -

DEPARTMENT: FOOD SERVICES

STATUS: TEMPORARY FULL TIME    (Approximately August 14, 2022 – March 31, 2023; may end sooner/be extended)

SALARY: $22.44 - $22.65

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Food Service Department at the Hospital provides food services to inpatients in Acute Care, Continuing Care and Outpatients. This department serves over 200,000 patient meals each year and operates seven days per week. In addition, the Food Service department operates the retail Atrium Café, which serves fresh daily specials, soups, salads and other goodies to both staff, visitors and patients. 

The Dietary Aide performs a variety of duties within the Food Service department including but not limited to:

  • Portioning of patient meal items
  • Capturing Food and Beverage preferences form patients
  • Preparing patient food trays
  • Delivery of food trays to the units
  • Washing and sanitizing equipment
  • Ensuring food safety processes and standards are followed at all times (temperature checks, expiry dates, etc.)

HOURS:

The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Food Service Worker Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution required
  • Current Food Handlers Certificate issued within the past five (5) years required
  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of one (1) year Food Service experience preferably in a Hospital setting
  • Preference will be given to those with a Certified Cook designation from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize, and take initiative
  • Team and customer focused with the ability to communicate respectfully in a pleasant, flexible, and professional manner with all patients, families, staff and volunteers
  • Ability to adapt to changes in assignment throughout a shift, and follow instructions as assigned
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Physical ability to carry out the essential duties of the position
  • Excellent attendance record.
