LOCATION - Peoria, IL
Our Management Firm is assisting our client to hire an innovative General Manager for this established paper mill, who can both maintain and grow traditional sources of revenue, and develop new markets for the Company’s technology and expertise.
The Company:
We are the industry leader in machine crepe papers used in the multi-wall bag industry. Located in Peoria, IL, with an experienced team of approximately 40 people, the plant is also an industry leader in the production of silicone-coated base paper for the carpet industry. The Mill has operated since 1918 and was utilizing recycled paper as a main fiber source long before the 'green movement'.
Our parent company is engaged in manufacturing industrial packaging products, including recycled corrugated medium, kraft, crepe and specialty packaging papers as well as corrugated boxes. Additionally, they own a Canadian company which operates two facilities in Ontario manufacturing clay-coated recycled boxboard and folding cartons, primarily for private label food companies and other consumer goods manufacturers. Our parent company employs 600 people and generates over $200 million of revenues from six facilities across North America.
The Position:
The ideal candidate has significant experience in the paper industry, as an operations leader. The successful candidate will have a history of innovation and development of new ideas for leveraging existing technology and/or expertise to create new products or applications.
Reporting to, and working with, the President and CEO the General Manager will be responsible for achieving annual financial targets and creating the vision and strategic business plan for the Company with the goal of providing an optimal return on investment. This individual will direct a senior Management team in setting and achieving business goals and has overall responsibility for all activities associated with the efficient, safe and cost-effective design and production of the Mill’s products to meet customer needs. The General Manager will oversee the development and maintenance of operations in accordance with world-class lean manufacturing methodologies and will monitor operations vis-á-vis changing legal requirements, advising its parent company on matters of due diligence regarding safety, environment and other issues of potential liability.
The shareholders of the Company are supportive of its growth plans and will provide the new General Manager the opportunity to drive sales and service to the next level.

Position Requirements:
- At least 10 years’ experience in a senior Management position in the paper industry.
- Demonstrated track record regarding product or process innovation.
- University education in pulp and paper, chemical engineering or mechanical engineering an asset.
- Proven commitment to health and safety initiatives.
- Demonstrated leadership including the ability to motivate and mentor staff, delegate responsibility, and inspire team spirit.
- Ability to develop and assess new ideas.
- Ability to make tough, timely operational and financial decisions.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Innate ability to liaise with staff and clients at all levels.
- Strong listening and communication skills.
- High level of integrity.
