Recreation Therapist

SALARY: $32.18 - $37.05

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Recreation Therapist will plan, direct and coordinate recreation based treatment programs for patients primarily within our Continuing Care Centre (CCC) and also across the organization as needed. This position provides therapeutic recreation that will utilize functional intervention, education and recreation participation to enable patients with physical, cognitive, emotional and/or social limitations to acquire and/or maintain the skills knowledge and behaviours that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally, function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible.

 

HOURS:

The successful candidate must be available to work all shifts applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department. This candidate must also meet the non-availability requirements of the Collective Agreement and be available for short notice relief coverage. 

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • University degree in Therapeutic Recreation or College Diploma in Recreation Therapy or Recreation Post-Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Recreation.
  • R/TRO or eligible for R/TRO designation
  • Education/Experience in Restorative Care preferred
  • Ability to manage large projects from idea to implementation.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience providing therapeutic recreation assessments and program planning for patients in Continuing Care, Acute Care or Rehabilitation within the last three (3) years preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and conflict resolution skills and able to work through conflicts and differences in a respectful manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members to ensure an excellent patient care experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to patient and staff safety.
  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing/continuous professional development.
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Cerner, etc.)
  • Demonstrated acceptable previous performance reflective of STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program.

 

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work. Any candidate entering the facility to attend an interview will be required to provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status. To be considered fully immunized, individuals need to have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days earlier than the date they arriving to an interview or to begin work at STEGH.
